You don't need to constantly be hungry in order to be able to lose weight. Because you know… that would lead to an eating disorder and is not what we want obviously 🙂
There is however one thing that is commonly overlooked: losing fat means that you are consuming less calories than your body is burning, which means you will inevitably be a bit hungry! In fact, hunger can be a huge success tool in naturally losing fat.
This is why being hungry 30 to 60 minutes before you have one of your meals is ideal.
Important: being hungry 30 to 60 minutes does not mean pushing it past 60 minutes, because that will lead to a rebound afterwards. It also doesn’t mean eating immediately once you feel a bit hungry.
You need to be in a caloric deficit to lose fat and hunger will be your easiest indicator that you are in fact in a deficit – without even knowing how many calories you are eating (if you choose not to count).
“Amy, do I need to be hungry for breakfast?”
If you have any history of regaining weight after a diet, emotional eating, overeating or any of those things, your best bet is to have breakfast. Even when you are not hungry!
Consider yourself a toddler who needs structure and routine – if the toddler doesn’t get structure and routine, he will throw a tantrum.
Make breakfast the start of your day and your body will learn it’s ‘okay’ and not feel like it’s being overly restricted.
This will reduce the stress your body is experiencing and set you up for fat loss and maintenance success!
