9 Productivity Tips for the Entrepreneur who Works from Home – FastForwardAmy Show 011

February 24, 2020 By fastforwardamy Leave a Comment

When I started out my online “entrepreneurial journey”, I googled ENDLESS articles on what the world's finest and wealthiest did for their time management. I bought books and kept devouring endless articles… Until I realized I got it all wrong. The most important thing about time management? Get shit done. So that's what I'm gonna help you do with this overview.

1. Set a fixed morning routine

You think you have the freedom to start your morning whichever way you want to – but honestly that ‘freedom'? It's leading you to lollybop around. Create a fixed timeframe + routine for yourself to set your day up for success.

I'd go for breakfast while reading + shower + get dressed + put on makeup, because you'll feel more in control and ready to #go.

2. Workout before you work-in

Because it's so easy to snooze longer than planned, and it's easy to get distracted all day and spend too much time on your computer without going outside… I recommend working out in the mornings to set your work-from-home-day up for success! Set a date with a friend to go swimming every week, hire a personal trainer, join an early crossfit gym… There is no better way to start the day than to get your blood pumping.

3. Banish work from the bedroom

Bedrooms are for 2 ‘S's only: SEX AND SLEEPING – they are not for the wicked 3d S: STRESS. Teach your body and mind your bedroom is for fun, sexy time and relaxtime only and keep the laptop awayyyyy from the bedroom baby!

Working from home is already daunting because your living space is your workspace, but keep your bedroom off-limits, ok?

4. Pick a fixed workspot in your home

Ahhh, the freedom to choose every couch and surface in your home to work. Make it clear for your own trained brain and your loved ones who live with you when you are working and when you are chilling by dedicating 1 spot in your home to work from. You'll need less willpower and get into workflow much faster.

5. Turn off your notifications (and your phone)

Ahhh – I can't believe how many people still have a ton of notifications on! Honestly – no one needs you as urgently as you think they do. Just turn off all the computer and phone notifications, you don't need to get pulled out of your workflow. Because that's the only thing those notifications are accomplishing:  ruining your flow of genius.

6. Be proactive before you're reactive

Those big goals and dreams you have? Yeah – they're never gonna happen if you keep checking emails and responding to messages Be proactive and work on the big stuff that moves the needle before you get reactive and in communication mode, boo!

7. Don't mix social and worktime

Although I love going to lunch with my mom and girlfriends, I've had to admit it to myself… switching gears from private to work to private to work all the time is exhausting and drains my willpower faster than I can say ‘aha'. So choose to keep your social time for at night and treat the rest of your day just like you would if you would work for someone else .- instead of playing hooky all the time. You're just not reaching your goals that way.

8. Plan your next day and week

Do you think Bill Gates just wings his calendar every week? Nope – and neither should you. Plan what you'll do beforehand so you'll need less willpower when you start your workday. Bonus: it will give you less reason to snooze because you know what's waiting for you 😉

9. Plan in buffer time

This has been my personal life saver these past weeks: planning in 1-2 hours of buffer time into every day. That means unforeseen issues and communication can get handled by me and don't require me to work into my evenings. Be realistic in your planning and know that things will always pop up, so make your schedule flexible with some open gaps!

There you go – I hope you enjoyed this list! Do you want MORE of my work-from home tips? Download my free guide below and smash that work-from-home productivity!
