I know that it can be terrifying to start thinking about scaling your business – but maintaining the same setpoint is the same as going backward.
When you're at a point where your business is profitable and you have a steady client base, you need to take your business to the next level: it's time to Boss Up!
In this article, I will teach you the 6 key principles to growing and scaling your business using my very own Wheel of Scalability.
In fact, I've used these 6 principles myself, and we continuously use them in the FastForward Team.
Consistently following these steps has helped me scale my business from one-on-one coaching to having fully scalable group programs with separate modules and support coaching.
Principle #1 Magic data
I've loved numbers and data ever since I started my first jewelry business at the age of 10.
There's this saying: What you measure is what you know. True, but I prefer to say what you measure is what you can increase.
So when you want to scale your business, you need to start tracking everything. And I mean E.V.E.R.T.Y.H.I.N.G., you HAVE the data you just need to start tracking it.
Example: How many people sign up for your webinar? How many people attend the webinar? How many people buy the offer you pitch in the webinar? These are all numbers that will help you determine your conversion rate, how many leads you'll need and other important analytics.
My advice: start tracking as much as possible, you can use a simple excel sheet or google spreadsheet to start.
When you have a clear overview of your stats, you'll be able to redirect some of your resources to the right spots in your business to make more money!
Principle #2 Organization
Growing my business over the past two years has really pushed me to get hyper-organized.
It started with me documenting all processes and workflows to automate, or to outsource later down the road, allowing me to focus on my zone of genius.
When you're serious about scaling your business, you should start documenting recurring tasks and processes.
It could be:
- Publishing a blog post on your website.
- Posting Instagram Reels using a specific setup.
- Plan out your next podcast episodes.
Getting organized however is not the goal itself, moving forward with your business is. And to move forward, you need to get your organization to support you and your business.
Organizing your business will help you waste less time and stay focused on your future goals.
TIP: Set up the milestones you want to achieve, and then work your way backward to make sure your workflows and processes support you in achieving those goals.
Principle #3 Consistent lead generation
One of the mistakes I made growing the FastForward business was that I was focused on organization as a goal for too long, which resulted in me not spending enough time on lead generation.
Make sure you have good baseline content, and from that, you can create an evergreen lead machine.
Example: We batch the FastForwardAmy Show and based on just one episode, we create at least 10 different pieces of content:
- an email,
- an article,
- a shorter and longer clip,
- a list post,
- a mini-guide,
- etc…
The goal is to keep attracting new people to our brand.
Most entrepreneurs fail to scale their business because they focus only on serving existing customers at the end of their pipelines, and not on filling those pipelines with new leads as well.
Getting a constant stream of new potential customers through consistent lead generation is sooooooo important when scaling your business.
To increase this pool of potential clients, use the info you've got from your magic data and never stop marketing your offer!
Principle #4 Team
Being an entrepreneur is one thing, but being a manager and leading a team is something completely different.
(no joke, becoming a manager has been the wildest fucking ride of my life).
Building a team can be part of scaling your business, but it's never a goal in itself.
The goal is always to grow your business, and building a team facilitates this growth.
The moment you get a team, it should be part of your mission to grow your people, foster accountability and ownership, and teach them to become experts in their field.
The more I can help my people grow and make an impact, the more impact they can make themselves.
Principle #5 Automation
Starting your business, you're so caught up in the game, giving it your all, and working all day…
At a certain point, you've got to take a step back to look at what can be automated.
- What systems can you implement?
- What workflows can be automated?
- Can you use email templates?
- Where can your improve education for your team?
Take a look at your organization and map out what you can automate to build a business that supports you, instead of you supporting your business.
TIP: Even after automating workflows and processes, make sure to revise your setup every 6 months. What can you optimize?
Principle #6 Passive profits
In the Business Freedom Elevator™, I teach my clients how to build their personal brand and how their name is their most prized possession.
As you go from starting entrepreneur to scaling your business, you need to get consistent everyday sales that are not based on your face, or how pretty you look on your Instagram stories.
The goal is to have passive funnels (e.g., automated webinars and evergreen content) in place that convert for you!
For example, when your lead generation runs (kind of) on autopilot, you can also make conversions run (kind of) on autopilot.
Instead of running a live webinar, you can host an automated webinar with evergreen content where you pitch a mini-course or a download.
(this is exactly what I do with my Hoe Schaal Je Jouw Bedrijf webinar (in Dutch)! If you want to see how we do this AND learn even more about scaling your business, head over to www.fastforwardamy.com/schaaljebedrijfwebinar and register now!).
The gist of passive profits is to make money consistently without launching and avoid depending on selling everything live – you want to make money while you sleep!
RECAP
These 6 key principles from the Wheel of Scalability will support you as you move from starter to boss scaler, or later down the road from medium-sized business to full-blown organization.
Team FFA and I are going through this wheel as we speak, and will probably keep going through it for the next two years or so.
If you want to scale your business too, this wheel will teach you what (not) to do based on my very own experiences.
