We’re taught from a very young age to be average. Not want too much. Not fly too high. And although I always felt a big resistance towards living a small and average life, it took me a while to realize there is nothing wrong with wanting bigger and better things for yourself.
That’s why I said goodbye to living according to the norm and embraced the fact that I wanted to live an abundant life — a life where nothing is ‘too crazy’ and there’s always enough. However, getting there has been a journey and that’s exactly what I want to talk to you about.
I’m not telling you this is what you have to do to create an abundant life but this is what worked for me. I’ve applied certain techniques, for the lack of better word, to my life to be able to live an abundant life. Today, I’m talking you through my journey of how I got to where I am today.
Abundance is a form of freedom
What made me want to talk about this? As any entrepreneur I struggle sometimes and lately, I’ve felt like I was struggling so I needed to figure some things out and reprioritize everything. And guess what? I figured it out. I spent a lot of time looking inward and reconnecting with myself. My life is about creating abundance and abundance means an ample amount of something. That’s what I’ll talk about today.
I realized that a lot of people look up to me but it’s not because you’re a business coach and an example to people, that you’re always doing everything right. At the end of the day, you’re still human and humans are flawed so therefore, you’re bound to make mistakes. I do doubt myself from time to time and I have patterns of negative behavior that come back sometimes. For example, I tend to go hard in my business but then I let the importance of my health slip. Other entrepreneurs might experience the same and it’s important we learn from each other.
Fear is the opposite of abundance
What I realized was that in a quest to conform to the norm, I ignored some things that I needed as a human being and as a creative. I wasn’t coaching or creating content as much as I wanted, or should I say needed. I wasn’t going after new ideas out of fear. As a child, you tend to be more reckless like doing crazy stunts on the ski slopes but as you get older, you tone it down out of fear because what if you fall?
Fear is never a good thing because it’s the opposite of abundance — making decisions out of scarcity is the literal opposite of deciding from abundance. So stopping yourself from going after a new idea or proposing something new to your team equals scarcity. Empires are never built from fear.
Now, as I’ve made clear: I’m guilty of this lacking mindset too where I’m not fully confident in my capabilities. I have loads of amazing ideas but I don’t dare go after them. Sometimes that’s because of outside influences. People who impose certain beliefs on you but when someone tries to do this to you, always ask yourself: ‘why should I stop doing this because other people believe it needs to be that way?’. It’s crucial to handle business as you see fit, not how bystanders think you should act.
Stay far away from scarcity
Work life balance is what really tripped up my brain. I don’t get a burnt out feeling from doing what I love, I get burnt out from other people projecting their expectations onto me. Going against my nature is what ruins my mindset for me but when my actions are aligned with my nature and my goals, I thrive. In short: I discovered that when I’m in my zone of genius, I’ll never get burnt out.
When you feel a lot of resistance when you’re a business owner and you have thoughts like “Oh, I should stop work by that time because I have to be the perfect mom”, “I shouldn’t do too many things at the same time.” Those thoughts are fueled by scarcity and good decisions are never made out of fear or scarcity. Step into your abundant mindset when making life or business decisions because only then will you reap the benefits of those decisions.
Abundance means always thinking: “What if I win?” I will win. It’s an and, and, and mentality. Abundance is about options and possibilities. I am assuming the win in my life. I won’t waste anymore energy on doubting the results. People think of negative things for 85% of their time but just imagine you would spend that percentage on positive thoughts. That would be an absolute game changer.
Average is the enemy
When you really think about it: we were taught from a young age not to want too much, to not aim too high. Human beings get taught to be average when in reality there’s nothing wrong with wanting bigger and better things for yourself. People might judge you but that’s simply because they don’t know any better. So don’t be average because that’s the norm that we’re taught.
Some people claim they’re not driven or they’re not ambitious, a common phrase is “I’m not like you.” but what a lot of people seem to forget is that ambition and drive aren’t the same for everyone. It doesn’t necessarily have to mean you want to be rich, it could also mean that you’re driven to be a good mother. You want your kids to grow up healthy and fulfilled. Ambition and drive can mean whatever you want it to.
So if we’re constantly afraid of becoming obsessed, we keep ourselves small. Start aiming for excellence and allow yourself to want more. At the end of the day, we’re all different and you need to spend your time doing what lights your soul on fire.
Positively obsessed
What 4 things do you need to break through scarcity?
- Dare to dream: If you don’t dare to dream, you can’t ever be sure what to believe in.
- Dare to believe (that it’s possible for you): Whether you think you can or think you can’t; you’re right! Read that sentence again and let that sink in because the most important thing to take from that quote is to realize that belief is paramount in reaching your goals.
- Dare to decide: Make the necessary decisions because they will influence the rest of your day, month or even your life.
- Dare to do: Be brave enough to take massive action.
Does attracting abundance mean you have to surrender yourself to the hustle culture? No, unless hustling day in and day out makes you incredibly happy then you absolutely should. What should be a priority is finding discipline will always be good for you, you might not always like it but it will always be beneficial for you because it is a form of self care.
My conclusion is that I think we can get positively obsessed with whatever we want. It’s time to not let other people decide for us. Let’s feel free to obsess about creating an abundant life.
