Today is a really special day, because I had the chance to talk to Danielle Canty, Bossbabe founder and household name in digital marketing.
Danielle has been somewhat of an idol and inspiration of mine, so it was surreal that she took the time to sit down and talk to me about the path she’s walked in the past and where new decisions will take her now.
Danielle is known for founding Bossbabe together with Nathalie Ellis, an 8-figure business that has become a household name over the past couple of years.
She recently announced she was exiting Bossbabe and focusing on some new adventures: becoming a mom being one of them.
Discover all the subjects we discussed during our talk below.
Taking a walk down memory lane
Danielle doesn’t consider herself to be a born entrepreneur, she wasn’t fascinated with selling from a young age. She even started out as an educated and passionate chiropractor, but she quickly realized that her entrepreneurial spirit was at the forefront of her mind and she wanted to do something about. So, Danielle started inquiring on how to buy one of the chiropractic clinics she was working at.
“I felt really lonely and embarrassing that I couldn't say to any of my friends that I wanted to be an entrepreneur. My best friends were a doctor and a lawyer. They thought entrepreneurship was absolutely crazy.”
Once she succeeded, her happiness was short-lived, because she realized she didn’t want to be tied to a location. Danielle wanted to be fully independent in her business and that’s when she realized it was time for her next career.
Allow things to grow over time
Danielle decided she was ready for that next step, but in all fairness she knew nothing about business. All she knew was how to run a chiropractic clinic, but that was nothing like the thing she was working towards now.
If there’s one thing she could tell people it would be: the first thing you try will rarely be the thing that truly works for you. And if it doesn’t work the first time, give it time to grow.
The Female Movement of Bossbabe
After she decided to start a new career, Danielle realized she wanted to be doing more. Making more money, helping more people,…
But she also felt lonely as a woman in entrepreneurship and almost ashamed to admit that she wanted to make more money than she was at that time.
It was when she met Natalie, her future business partner, that a light went off in her head and Danielle realized she wanted to create a female-driven community.
So, in 2018, Natalie and Danielle launched Bossbabe — a business that stood for empowerment and determination. A business that wanted to inspire and motivate fellow female entrepreneurs to go after what they wanted.
Failing Forward
Failure is a concept Danielle doesn’t really acknowledge, because according to her: you don’t fail, as long as you don’t stop trying. A person’s stumbles aren’t what defines them, it’s the way they handle these stumbles that defines them.
She wants people to see failing as something positive, because failure is growth and it’s learning. And how boring would life be if you didn’t have anything left to learn?
“That's the way you see a lot of the rapid growth because you remember the pain of your mistakes.”
Everyone can learn
Danielle urges people to sit with your uncomfortable feelings and allow yourself to learn. She wasn’t a social media mogul, even worse: Danielle disliked social media and felt very uncomfortable showing her face online.
But now, she has 104.000 followers on Instagram and has built a true community for herself.
So, make sure you dabble outside of your comfort zone because that’s where your success lies.
Make sure to go and listen
My conversation with Danielle lasted well over an hour, so naturally, I couldn’t incorporate everything we talked about.
So, I’d love to invite you to listen to my podcast Fail to Win where you can listen to the full episode.
