When you’re a small business owner, you know just how much support from your friends is worth. When your work wife or business BFF brings out a new offering, it’s an awesome feeling to be able to support them by buying their product. Sadly, your financial situation isn’t always in a place that allows you to spend money on non-essentials.
Can you support your friend’s business when you don’t have money to buy their product?
YES!
There are still tons of ways you can support small businesses that don’t cost a penny: read on for our top tips.
1. Forward their product to your other friends
Let’s say your friend is bringing out a new range of aromatherapy candles, or a book on how to start an online business. You might hate the smell of candles, or already have a successful online business, so your friend’s products aren’t relevant to you.
Spend a little time brainstorming, and think about which of your contacts might benefit from the new product on offer. Send them the link to your friend’s business, and you’ll be introducing someone new to the brand. If they don’t buy the product now, they’ll have the company in mind for the future.
Write a supportive comment
Social media algorithms work in using very simple method: the more people like and comment on your post, the more people will see it. A super easy way to help out your friend is to like and comment on their social media posts promoting their business.
Write a supportive comment recommending their services and letting their followers know just how skilled your friend is. You never know – your comment might just help convince someone to take the leap and buy your friend’s product.
Share it far and wide
It’s unlikely that you actually know every one of your social media followers personally. Maybe that woman you connected with on LinkedIn after meeting at a conference is a big fan of aromatherapy candles. Or maybe that guy from your high school has always dreamed of owning an ecommerce site, and would love your friend’s new ebook on creating an online business.
Share your friend’s business website across social media, and it could well end up in front of someone who really needs what they’re offering.
Offer moral support
It’s not all about the actions you can take to support your friend. Invite them round for coffee and ask them how things are going with their new product. It can be stressful to invest in a new offering not knowing whether people will like it or not, and your friend will appreciate you taking the time to listen to their experience.
It doesn’t cost a thing, and you’ll be helping your friend out a whole lot: win-win!
