From Scarcity to Abundance: The Mindset Shift That Unlocks Success – The Fail To Win Podcast Episode 311

October 28, 2025 By fastforwardamy Leave a Comment

If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking “Why am I not further along by now?” or “I’m doing everything right but nothing’s working,”  I’ve been there too.

I remember I had a day where I broke down in tears. I was overwhelmed, frustrated, and spiraling into self-doubt. But what really got me wasn’t the crying, it was the realization that I had unknowingly slipped into a scarcity mindset.

And that’s exactly what this post is about:
How to shift from fear-based thinking into an abundance mindset so you can create more peace, more progress, and yes, more money.

What is a scarcity mindset?

A scarcity mindset is when you believe there’s not enough to go around.

Not enough money.
Not enough time.
Not enough success.

It shows up in small ways:

  • Comparing yourself to others on Instagram
  • Thinking “I can’t afford that” instead of “I choose not to buy that right now”
  • Feeling pressure to make fast decisions out of fear of missing out

Scarcity keeps you in survival mode, always looking over your shoulder or second-guessing your next move. It’s exhausting and it blocks your ability to grow.

Abundance is a mindset, not a bank account

Let’s be clear. Abundance isn’t about spending a lot of money.
It’s about making decisions from a grounded, confident place, knowing that you have options.

A few years ago, I had a car with a broken mirror. Instead of buying a replacement, so I duct-taped it. At first, I felt embarrassed. I thought, “How can I show up at a (multimillionaire) client’s like this?”

But then my coach helped me reframe it.

Instead of seeing it as a failure, I saw it as a choice. I was choosing financial peace over appearances. That decision, while simple, was rooted in abundance. And it gave me peace of mind.

3 Signs you’re operating from scarcity

If you're not sure whether you're stuck in scarcity, here are a few signs to watch out for:

1. You speak in absolutes

Statements like “I can’t,” “This won’t work,” or “That’s impossible” are scarcity red flags.
Try flipping those into “I’m learning,” “I choose,” or “I’m figuring this out.”

2. You feel powerless

When you feel like things are happening to you, instead of through you, scarcity is running the show. Abundance reminds you that you always have options, even if they’re not ideal.

3. You make fear-based decisions

If you’re investing out of panic, saying yes just to avoid missing out, or holding back because you're afraid to fail that’s scarcity, not strategy.

How to shift into abundance (even on a tough day)

Here’s the good news: abundance isn’t something you wait to feel. It’s something you can practice daily with small but powerful shifts.

1. Audit your inner language

Start by listening to how you speak to yourself. Are you using words like “not enough,” “can’t,” or “never”? Catch those phrases and reframe them.

Instead of: “I can’t afford that.”
Try: “I choose to save for something else right now.”

Instead of: “This is not working.”
Try: “I’m learning what works for me.”

2. Clean up your environment

Abundance loves clarity. You don’t need a perfect home or fancy office, but you do need a space that reflects your vision.

Start with what you have. Tidy up one room. Paint one wall. Light a candle. Make your space feel good now, not ‘someday when there is more’.

3. Ask better questions

Instead of focusing on what’s not working, ask:

  • What’s going well today?
  • What are my options here?
  • What’s one step I can take to move forward?

Even asking yourself “What was the best part of today?” can change how your brain processes everything.

4. Surround yourself with abundant energy

This isn’t just about friends. It’s also about the content you consume. Who do you follow online? Do they inspire action or make you feel behind?

Choose mentors, podcasts, and books that lift you up and expand your thinking, not those that feed the scarcity spiral.

Why this mindset shift changes everything

When you think from abundance, you:

  • Make decisions with clarity, not pressure
  • Feel more confident, even when things aren’t perfect
  • Attract better clients, partners, and opportunities
  • Stop trying to control everything and start creating more flow

And the best part?

You become someone who can handle growth. Because abundance isn’t just about getting more. It’s about becoming more.

Start practicing abundance today

Here’s a simple challenge to get you started:

  1. Write down three sentences you’ve been repeating lately.
  2. Circle the ones that come from fear or lack.
  3. Rewrite them in a way that reflects choice, opportunity, or growth.

Then, each time you notice scarcity creeping in, remind yourself: “I have options. I can choose something different.”
