If the idea of taking a real vacation makes your chest tighten, I get it. You're the go-to person. Your clients need you. There’s always content to post, a launch to prep, a sale to make.
But here’s the truth: If you never unplug, your business isn’t scalable – it’s surviving off your energy. And that’s a recipe for burnout.
I used to struggle with this too, especially during peak Summer. But this summer, I decided to do things differently. I planned for a true offline break – not a “vacation” where I still respond to Voxer, prime a launch or write captions by the pool.
Here’s exactly how I make it happen – and how you can too.
Step 1: I rebuilt my boundaries
I told every client months in advance I’d be fully offline. No apologies. Just leadership.
They respected it – and some even said it inspired them to take time off too. This shift started by trusting that I don’t need to be hyper-available to be valuable.
Step 2: I planned my life first, then my launch
Instead of slotting my life around business plans, I flipped the script.
➡️ I picked the weeks I wanted to be off.
➡️ I scheduled family time and buffer days.
➡️ Only then did I plan my content, launch cycle, and client onboarding around it.
Pro tip? I don’t launch anymore when I’m fully offline. That’s a boundary I protect.
But I do keep lead generation going with prepped content, opt-ins, and automated nurture.
Step 3: I used systems that run without me
I’ve built a machine that keeps showing up – even when I don’t:
→ Pre-recorded podcast + email newsletter
→ Instagram content batched in advance
→ Automated stories, reels, and nurture sequences
It’s not about being lazy and just being offline – it’s about being smart. My team knows when I’ll be gone. They know what they need from me before I leave. That means less stress for them and no surprises for me when I return.
Step 4: I hacked my habits
Like many of us, I used to be addicted to “checking in.” So I use tools like the Opal app to block Instagram and work apps during vacations, nights, and weekends. No notifications = no rabbit holes.
And guess what? The world doesn’t fall apart when I don’t ‘check’.
Step 5: I redefined freedom
To me, freedom isn’t sipping margaritas while secretly answering client DMs. It’s about being fully present with my family, enjoying what I do whether that’s work or beachtime, doing what I love and knowing the business keeps moving.
I’m not trying to be the cool coach who never works. I’m here to be the available, high-integrity mentor my clients love – and to protect my peace and energy while I scale.
If you’re still white-knuckling your business and calling it passion – it’s time to build something better where you get to take some time off.
