Success in business doesn't happen by chance. It's built on consistent actions and routines that align with your goals. For entrepreneurs, juggling multiple responsibilities can feel overwhelming, making it easy to overlook the personal habits that truly drive progress.
Here's the thing: we look at successful people and wonder how they do it. Sometimes we even think they're lucky. Lucky to have a nice house. Lucky to be in great shape. Lucky to have a thriving business.
But we fail to ask why. Why is their house so nice? Why are they in great shape? Why is their business thriving?
The answer is habits. They make more good choices more consistently than most people do.
In this post, I'm diving into the top 3 habits every entrepreneur needs to thrive in business and life. These habits are simple to implement but have a massive impact on your productivity, health, and long-term success.
Whether you're just starting or scaling your business to new heights, these habits will help you focus, stay energized, and achieve results without burning out.
Habit #1: Start Your Day for YOU
The way you begin your day sets the tone for everything that follows. If you're jumping straight into emails, social media, or client requests, you're letting external demands control your energy and focus.
I have a very clear rule for myself: I need to gratitude journal in the morning, I can't have my phone in the bedroom, and I need to have breakfast before I drink coffee. Whenever I fuck this up, whenever I start my day scrolling or drinking coffee on an empty stomach, my results go downhill.
This is not to say you can't do this for a few years. But if you want long-term success, if you're stressing out from the moment you wake up early in the morning, at a certain point your body is just going to say no more.
Here are a few ideas to start your day for you
Practice gratitude journaling to set a positive mindset (3 minutes max). Avoid your phone for at least the first 30 minutes after waking up. No exceptions. Eat a healthy breakfast before drinking coffee to stabilize your energy.
Why it matters
When you take control of your morning, you create mental clarity and a sense of calm that helps you tackle the day's challenges with focus. Successful entrepreneurs know the importance of protecting their mornings to stay productive and stress-free.
Start your day proactive instead of reactive and you'll see a massive shift in how you feel by the end of the workday.
Habit #2: Move Your Body Daily
Health is wealth, especially for entrepreneurs. Physical activity isn't just about staying in shape. It directly impacts your mental clarity, energy levels, and ability to make decisions.
Let me be honest: if it weren't for my personal health coach stopping by four times a week, I would often just stay at my desk. I love my work so much. There's always another question from a client I want to reply to or my team needs me. So I need someone at my door to haul my ass away from my desk.
But what about when you can't afford a personal health coach?
First, ask yourself if you really can't afford it or if you won't because you don't believe in the value. A lot of entrepreneurs can actually afford to have a health coach maybe once a week, but they don't want to pay for it because they think it's ridiculous. “I could do it myself.”
I always say: you could also give birth to yourself, but why would you?
Before I hired a team, I hired a health coach with the only money I had left. And before I was able to do that, I would rope a friend into going swimming or ask my partner to go for a walk.
If you really can't afford it, here's what you can do:
Go for a 10-minute walk after meals. Stretch or do yoga to release tension. Find an accountability partner to stay consistent. Build discipline: just always go for a walk after you eat.
Why it matters
Entrepreneurs who prioritize movement tend to have better focus, higher resilience, and fewer burnouts. Movement fuels your creativity and keeps you energized, making it easier to handle your busy schedule. It forces you to disconnect from work and focus on yourself, releasing all kinds of good stuff in your body. As a result, your work will be higher quality too.
Your business is not going to take care of your health for you. Maybe instead of investing in a VA or another system or having fancy notebooks made with your logo on it, invest in a health coach for yourself. You're going to get much further ahead as an entrepreneur if you're taking care of your health.
Habit #3: Create Focus with Daily Targets
Without focus, it's easy to feel busy but not productive. One of the most powerful habits for success is setting clear targets every day. Instead of reacting to endless to-do lists, identify the top 3 tasks that will move the needle for your business goals.
I use a productivity planner from Intelligent Change every morning. (I almost feel bad advertising for them because I really want to create my own planner someday. Please be open to buying my own planner if I ever get around to it. In the meantime, you can use code ‘amyv10' for 10% off at Intelligent Change.)
Every morning I sit down and I really notice when I do this versus when I don't. It asks: what are you grateful for? What's your intention for today? What are your most important tasks?
I change “important tasks” into targets. What are your most important targets you need to hit this week? For me that could be 500 webinar signups, 30 people who buy a program, 10 new email subscribers. I identify my big targets for the week (top three), I have my team do this as well, and knowing these targets and then revisiting them every morning and identifying the actions I need to take to hit those targets creates so much focus.
Use tools like productivity planners or a simple journal to:
- List your top 3 weekly and daily targets.
- Break down each target into actionable steps.
- Review your progress each evening to refine your focus.
Pro tip: Turn off distractions like notifications and keep your phone out of sight when you need deep focus. It's been scientifically proven that if you see your phone, you are more distracted and you're going to grab it.
This requires discipline. But it drives me nuts how many people are like “the needle is not moving” and I'll look at what they actually did. I'll be like, give me a list of everything you did today. And they spend all of their time on such stupid shit.
How many times can you refresh your email inbox? It doesn't need that much refreshing. You shouldn't be starting your day with your email inbox or your messages.
When you're telling me you don't have time but I see you replying to my Instagram story always within five minutes, you're not focused. You're always on Instagram. Being on Instagram is not running your business.
Why it matters
Clear targets eliminate overwhelm and ensure you're prioritizing what truly matters. This habit helps you stay consistent, track your progress, and make measurable strides toward your goals.
Why These Habits Work Together
When combined, these three habits create a powerful framework for success:
Starting your day for you builds a strong foundation. Moving your body fuels your energy and mental clarity. Creating focus ensures you're channeling that energy into meaningful actions.
Each habit reinforces the others, making it easier to maintain momentum and achieve your goals consistently.
How to Get Started Today
Ready to take your business and life to the next level? Start small. Choose one habit to implement this week and build from there.
Think about the most successful people in the world. Would they be doing this or not? What would the best version of you do if you're being really honest about it? Can your habits today get you to that version of you that you want to step into?
If you're being really honest, often that answer is going to be no.
The way I set my focus for the week and those targets is by using my planner. I created this digital planner for myself and you can access it too. In that digital planner, every week at the end of the line I'll state my three big goals (brand awareness, lead generation, and sales). By doing that, I just know that we are focusing on the right stuff.
