The 7 biggest mistakes I made building my online business and how you can avoid them – FastForwardAmy Show Episode 009

February 10, 2020 By fastforwardamy 1 Comment

When I first got started building my business, I made some mistakes I'd rather prevent you from making!

Here below I've listed them for your convenience – so you can skyrocket your business success.

Listen on Apple Podcasts: https://fastforwardamy.com/apple9
Listen on Spotify: https://fastforwardamy.com/spotify9
Listen on Google: https://fastforwardamy.com/google9

Mistake #1: I didn't build an e-mail list from the get go

Because I was so focused on building my audience and creating great content, I forgot (or rather, postponed) capturing people to my own email list with a good freebie. My advice to you would be to start an email list before you even start a website!

Mistake #2 I set my prices the wrong way and didn't elevate them fast enough

Ahhh – pricing. I once made the mistake of saying ‘just follow your gut'! Lol – NEVER do this! You should base your prices on many things, but not on your gutfeeling. On top of that: you should elevate them fast when the time is right and communicate this to your clients without fear. Listen to episode 5 of the FastForwardAmy Show to discover how to set your prices the right way and prevent yourself from making my mistake.

Mistake #3 I didn't have an offer in my email list

When I finally got around to building my email list, unfortunately I didn't figure it out fast enough that I should also offer something to the people on my list. Not selling because you're afraid it will be too pushy is costing you A LOT in the long run, because you know what?! People WANT to buy from you! They're downloading your stuff, reading your content… so guess what: if you had something to offer, they would gladly buy it and you would be helping them.

For me, the difficulty was in me wanting to create a masterpiece from the get go. I felt like I had to create the best end-all be-all ebook right away and that made me postpone creating it because I wanted perfection… Your first product doesn't need to be perfect. And yes, you can create more afterwards.

But now at least you can learn more about selling your offer and use that knowledge to boost your business further in the future.

Mistake #4 What works now, won't work forever – especially in online marketing

I grew a huge audience with infographics, and thought this was forever gonna be the case.

Guess what?

It wasn't.

I sat back, relaxed, and lost my golden egg. Because the one thing you can be sure of in the online business world is the following: everything will change and change is inevitable.

What works now, won't work forever. So always be on the lookout to #fastforward, because you're gonna need it!

Mistake #5 I put others on a pedestal and kept myself small because of it

It's never a good idea to compare and it's DEFINITELY not a good idea to make yourself smaller by making others bigger.

Let me rephrase that: if she can do it, you can do it too. And don't worship other people because you're holding yourself back because of it.

Mistake #6 I almost burnt out because I was behaving like my own employee

When you build your business, it's important to get the ADVANTAGES that come with building your business, too. Not just the disadvantages. So that means: you can say no to clients, you can make your own hours,… You are the boss of your business.

Yes, happy clients are your priority.

But you know what's even more important? To make you happy. Because that's why you started your business.

Don't forget you have all the power in your hands, otherwise you'll get run over before you know it.

Mistake #7 I thought I was smart and strong and that meant I had to do and learn everything myself

Guess what – investing in courses, programs and courses have skyrocketed my success IMMENSELY.

I didn't need to learn everything myself, it was okay to pay others to learn faster and more efficiently.

So my biggest advice of all to you would be: invest in yourself, invest in advice, you are not alone and you don't need to figure everything out yourself!

The list is creative findings! I appreciate them and got the knowledge to understand the wrong decisions. Especially, “I didn’t have an offer in my email list” is really important to know. Thanks and keep up the good work!
