How to Make 10k a Month, Every Month – The FastForwardAmy Show Episode 35 to 38

August 11, 2020 By fastforwardamy Leave a Comment

10k months are seen as the holy grail for starting entrepreneurs. If you follow a bunch of business coaches or online businesses on Instagram, you've probably seen an excited post with someone sharing their latest 10k month.

Have you ever thought:

  • “I want 10k months too!”
  • “I would have so much freedom if I could earn that much money”
  • “My dream life involves making 10k a month”

If you answered YES, then I have some very good news for you.

YOU are the solution to 10k months. Yes, you reading this right this second. It’s not some crazy goal that will take you 15 years to reach. You can start making 10k months very soon if you just apply some super important business rules to your life.

Are you ready to get started? This article will show you what you'll need to set yourself up for 10k months – every month.

Step 1: Work out why you’re not hitting 10k months

Sounds simple, huh? But in order to make that money, you first need to figure out what’s going wrong at the moment.

I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I’ve worked with a lot of online business owners. There are a bunch of common mistakes that you're probably making right now, that you can easily fix. Below are the five mistakes:

Mistake #1:

You’re hiding from the world while working on your product or service. I always talk about this with Jessica, my Alfavrouwen co-founder and close friend. There’s no point working on an exciting new project in your cellar – because no one knows about it! You’re not telling your story about what you’re creating and why you’re doing it, so we have no clue that it exists.

Mistake #2:

You’re not creating FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). Without urgency and scarcity, people don’t feel like they have a reason to buy – or at least not right now. They might think, okay, that looks cool, I’ll check it out some other time.

Mistake #3:

You’re not repeating and automating your launches to increase sales. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel every single time. Did you find something that works well? Repeat it and automate it!

Mistake #4:

You’re not improving your services or products. No matter how f*cking good you might think it is – and it might be! – you should always focus on improving what you’re offering so it’s as amazing as it can possibly be.

Mistake #5:

This final mistake is something I see a lot. When you want to launch something new, you create a whole new business or Instagram page around it. But you don’t need to do that – just build a sub brand around your product or service, and use your core brand as the umbrella. It saves you work, and it avoids confusing your audience.

How to fix your mistakes

Okay, so you know what you're doing wrong. Don’t take it personally – we’ve all been there! Here’s what you should be doing instead, if you want to hit those 10k months. Hint: the magic word is planning.

  • Plan your sales
When will you launch, and how long will the launch period last?
  • Plan your revenue
Define how much revenue you want your business to bring in
  • Plan your capacity
Define how many people need to buy what you’re selling in order to hit that goal

Now you know what you should and shouldn't be doing, it’s time to make it tangible.

Define your core offer

Are you ready for a little bit of math? If you want to make 10k a month, you'll need an offer that has the potential to bring in that amount of money. In order to pick that offer, you first need to calculate your monthly control number (your MCN). That’s basically the number you have to earn to cover all your professional and personal costs.

I’ve created a handy guide you can use to work out this magic number, or if you prefer listening, you can check out podcast episode #5. Once you’ve put your high school math skills to the test and worked out your MCN, there are two things you need to check:

#1: Your MCN protocol

Is it possible for you to hit your MCN with this new idea for an offer? If the answer is yes, just about, you’re risking exhaustion at the end of the month because you’re barely covering your costs.

#2: The 10k protocol

I created the 10k protocol to combat this exhaustion: can you hit 10k a month with this new idea? If you answered yes, you’ve found your core offer!

Build your support systems

Your next job is to build your support systems. It’s a common problem, everyone wants to do stuff on their own, because they’re proud they can figure things out. That’s awesome, but you’re kinda shooting yourself in the foot. Think of the CEO of a massive company. They have SO much support because it’s impossible to get a lot done without it. You’re smart and powerful, but that doesn’t mean you have to do everything by yourself.

We all need guidance and knowledge. Me, you, Beyonce, Oprah. Spending all your time figuring something out yourself, means you’re wasting time that could be spent on your clients instead. Allow yourself to get help by working with a coach or taking a business course, and you’ll gain so much clarity and direction.

You could also consider hiring an assistant. By working with an assistant, you can spend more time in your zone of genius, and less time doing the tasks that you don’t like, or that don’t require your unique skill set.

Finally, make sure you’ve got automations set up. Automate as much as you can so you can save time for the things that actually move the needle in your business. You won’t hit those 10k months by burying your head in admin all month, I promise…

Build your personal brand

The final puzzle piece in your 10k roadmap is your personal brand. YOU. Why should someone want to work with you? Is it clear how and why you’re special? Here’s the thing. Whatever business you have, I can pretty much guarantee there are 100s or 1000s of people doing the exact. same. thing.

Business coach? Yup.
Photographer? Yup.
Nutritionist? Yup.

So if your potential clients and customers have so much choice, why should they choose to work with you?

I build this framework around two core pillars:

  • Becoming an authority in your field
  • Being as authentic as you possibly can

You'll also need to show up on social media. It sounds simple right? Hopping onto Instagram Stories to share what you’re working on, or sharing a reel about your day. But the reality is that life is busy, and if you don’t actively plan for these things, they probably won’t happen.

Show up consistently every single day until it becomes a habit, and focus on growing your personal brand with these two pillars.

Don’t be afraid to tell dumb jokes if that’s authentically you. Most of my followers know that I love wine, Pingu memes, and orgasm jokes. Will that appeal to every single person in the world? No! And that’s totally fine. You are trying to attract your dream customers here, not just anyone who happens to be passing by.

The danger with not being authentic? Someone will buy your course, you present the course as your authentic self, sex jokes and all, and you end up with a shocked and unhappy customer, because they didn’t expect you to be like that. Not what we’re aiming for. Instead, show up online totally authentically, and people will love you for you.

Become an authority in your field by proving that you know your shit. Create killer content that provides value to your followers. Use social proof to show people that you have clients, and ask them for testimonials that you can share as well.

When people love you for who you are, AND they trust you, they’ll buy anything you offer.

And just like that, you have the power to hit those 10k months and beyond.

Now you’ve got your 10k roadmap, the real work begins. What are you going to do with this knowledge?
